Lessons from the Dojo floor. In this episode Judith Germain speaks to Brent Earlewine about lessons from the Dojo floor. They explore the leadership lessons that can be learned from practicing martial arts, emphasising the importance of being fully present in the moment and developing awareness of others.

Brent and Judith discuss the importance of being aware of people’s intentions and body language, both in martial arts and in the workplace. They also mention the concept of different levels of awareness (colour code system for alertness), from being completely unaware (white) to being alert and attentive (yellow).

Brent discusses the benefits of practicing martial arts in your professional life. For example how it  helped him cultivate skills such as predicting outcomes, continuous improvement, focus, and long-term goal setting.

In this conversation Judith and Brent discuss how martial arts impacts on leadership and visa versa. They also explore the concept of achieving a zen state of mind, highlighting the benefits of calmness and rationality in handling conflicts. Brent and Judith discuss the subtlety and finesse required in martial arts and how it parallels with mastering a professional skill set.

Brent Earlewine shares how all of those hard-won lessons from 3 and a half decades on the Dojo floor translate into an Executive’s Professional Career Development.
