Written communication – the science. In this conversation Judith Germain speaks to Rob Ashton about written communication and how it affects our decisions. He researched the science of written communication and shares that his company has trained over 80,000 people since its inception. Rob explains that the science of written communication has taken him 6 years (so far) to research deeply as there are so many different branches of science that need to be considered.

Unusually Rob advises that we must stop thinking of the brain as a computer, as the brain assimilates data very differently and is amazingly complicated. To be able to write we need to rewire the brain to do this effectively. For example, our hearing is involved when we are reading! Rob talks about how we are compelled to think in stories.

Rob is a writer, and a former research scientist and editor. For the last six years, he’s been on a quest to discover the science of how the words we read and write affect what we think and do.

Listen to this conversation and discover how to use written communication to engage others and how a lack of confidence leads to over writing. This is a fascinating conversation, full of real examples and insights, on how we use our brains.ย Learn how to free up your listener’s brain power so they can take in what you are trying to communicate.
